In preparation for the upcoming Fall Family Campout, we will have a swimmer classification event at the Elks Club this coming Monday (9/24) at 6 pm.
purpose: a classification rating is required for any scouting activity where the scouts are in the water (swimming, boating, canoe)
objective: impart general safety guidelines, good habits, and perform Scout classification swim (classification lasts for one year, and can be upgraded anytime)
bonus: Late September Swim Party!
The beginner test is a jump from the side of the pool into the deep end, swim 25 feet, make a turn and come back.
The full swimmer test is probably going to be a challenge for the younger guys, but anyone who would like to take a shot will have their opportunity. That test consists of swimming 75 yards, continuously, using any forward looking stroke followed by a back stroke swim for 25 yards. (In the elks club pool this will consist of 4 lengths of the pool, plus 1 length back)
